MitraClip
Transcatheter Edge-to-Edge Repair is an advanced, minimally invasive treatment that provides a lifeline for patients with leaking mitral valves who are not fit for traditional surgery. The procedure, which is highly specialized and technically demanding, involves the use of a small clip to repair the mitral valve without the need for open-heart surgery, offering relief to critically ill patients and improving their quality of life.
Dr. Sai Satish, a pioneer in trans-catheter valve therapies, has been at the forefront of this transformative approach in India. As the Clinical Head of Trans-catheter Heart Valve Therapies at Apollo Hospitals, he has led India’s maiden journey with MitraClip, helping to give many patients a second lease on life. Dr. Satish performs the highest number of percutaneous edge-to-edge mitral repairs in the subcontinent, and he introduced India’s first dedicated international trans-catheter training center at Apollo Hospitals in Chennai.
Among his achievements, Dr. Satish recently performed India’s first simultaneous trans-catheter repair of both mitral and tricuspid valves in a critically ill patient who had no other treatment options available. He also led the country’s initial procedures with the revolutionary Gen 4 transcatheter edge-to-edge mitral repair system, allowing safer and more effective treatments for patients with severely damaged valves.
With a profound commitment to patient wellbeing, Dr. Sai Satish continues to push the boundaries of trans-catheter therapies, offering innovative solutions and life-changing outcomes for patients across India.
